About Chef Karen Roth
Karen Roth was born and raised in a small town, Elba, in Western New York. One of her first jobs at a young age was working in a kitchen at a family diner, which is where she fell in love with cooking and knew it was in her future.
Upon graduating from high school, Karen attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York and then began working in various cities from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Charlottesville, Virginia.
Karen finally made her way to Memphis and worked under Chef Erling Jensen at his namesake restaurant shortly after it opened. After working her way up through the ranks and spending nearly ten years working with him, she departed to open Alchemy in Cooper Young with several partners.
The food and experience at Alchemy were amazing and taught Karen many things, but the late night bar scene was not a fit for her. In the spring of 2013, she joined Resort Lifestyle Communities with its opening of Robinwood Retirement in Bartlett. This was an amazing experience since the residents became Karen's second family. It was not just a job, but a life-changing experience.
When not at work, Karen is very involved with the West Tennessee Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, where she serves on the Board of Directors and is a coach for its Ride to Cure Diabetes program. Karen loves Memphis for its temperate climate because most things she enjoys doing are outside. She's an avid cyclist and is always happy to take her Reed Heeler rescue dogs for a hike or a trail run.
